Red and Blue Aprons: What's the difference?

In our Blue Lodge, Masters and Officials use only blue aprons.

However, we've recently received a visitor from Europe who was using a red apron.

What exactly defines the colour of the apron? The rite or the degree/position within the rite?

I've wondered that. I bought a apron from the early 1900s, it's red/ maroon ? With gold threaded square and compass and G. I can't find any information on it, if it's European or from here in the states.

2. Fundamentally, it is grand lodge law which defines the apron, but it may be due to office or Rite, depending on the GL.

Here in Scotland the apron is different for almost every Lodge. It's great to see the variations you get on a meeting night when you get many visitors.

Wich regalia (wich includes aprons) are used depends on wich rite is used and wich degree in the rite you have.

My own regalia is basicly a black/white necklase, sash and apron with a few other symbols.

What Im confused about is why the GL of Texas would have a visitor from the GodF?

I hope you didn’t sit in lodge with the individual. That jurisdiction is not recognized by GL Texas. Texas is in amity with GLNF. For those reasons, I could only speculate as to the apron.

Did anyone check his credentials or that he was from a recognized jurisdiction? I didn't think any US jurisdictions recognized GOdF.

I put it wrong in my post, since we were all having a conversation after the session about the fact that the Grand Orient de France is in fact not recognized neither by UGLE nor the Grand Lodge of Texas, but despite it they even have lodges in Houston. I made a confusion.

He is from the Grande Loge Nationale Française.

All previous credentials check and contacts between both Grand Lodge of Texas and GLNF were made with many weeks of anticipation.

However, his apron was red.

Every jurisdiction has its own rules that have nothing to do with any other jurisdiction. Your MM apron is the same as an English EA apron... go fig!

And my EC Lodge in Wisconsin wears UGLE regalia and aprons since we work in the Emulatuon Rite. We are not even the same as the rest of our own jurisdiction!

Also same here...i.e red for Chapter and purple for Council in the York Rite.

Here, within Craft Lodges, a red apron (specifically crimson) is reserved for Grand Stewards and Provincial Grand Stewards, past and present.

Very nice. Is the sash standard in all Scottish lodges or does it vary lodge to lodge? The reason I ask is we have a couple of semi-regular visitors from North of the border. They come from different lodges but both wear sashes, although of different design to match their aprons.

I haven't been to 1 yet where they don't wear a sash, but I suppose it's possible
