    Companions, Sir Knights,

What books are a good read especially for a new Yorkrite member?

I'm new to the York rite as well. I've been reading books on knighthood and the templars. Check out jp Luther website. There's lots of books on templar and the royal arch masonry.

I figure it's good to know as much as possible about the history of knights and the templars as well. Knowing and understanding the symbolism of the royal arch and the others.

These are two excellent books, both by Albert Mackey: The Book of the Chapter, Cryptic Masonry.

Absolutely. Make sure that you get a firm grasp on the Chapter and Council as well as the KT.
