Hello to all, my name is Jodie Ellison and i live in San Antonio Texas. I would like to become a Freemason and need a little help. I have emailed the sec. from one of my local lodges with no response. I am located in the 78244 area but was looking at the 78233 area as it is close to my house. Any help would be great.

AS modern as most Lodges are these days, they are still ancient by habit.

My best advice to you is to get up out of the computer chair and get moving. Find out when the Lodge meets and get up there to meet the Brethren in person! You will soon find out that nothing is given to you in this great fraternity of ours, you have to earn it.

Hit the phones, or Hit the streets... Go get what you want!!

When I realized I was getting no response to my emails, I phoned the local Lodge as well as my state Grand Lodge. When my calls were not returned, I checked the Lodge's website to find what day they meet. I made a trip up there about an hour before the meeting time and talked to some of the brothers who had arrived early. They were most helpful with answering my initial questions and pointing me in the right directions to get the ball rolling to begin my journey. I am now an Entered Apprentice in said Lodge, preparing for my Fellowcraft in just under two weeks.
So as the previous poster stated, hit the streets...go to the local Lodge that you had emailed. They may seem somewhat defensive at first, but the more you show your face and profess an interest, the more open they will become to you and, most likely, will welcome you with open arms and give you any assistance you may need in the petitioning process. You are at the very beginning stages of the greatest journey of your life, I wish you the best of luck. God Bless.

I live in San Antonio and would be happy to help, I am not in your area, but can look into putting you into contact with the lodge that you are wanting to visit.

Hit me up with a private message, and I would be more than happy to help.

Based on your zip code you're in the NE quadrant of the city. The nearest one to you is Charles Anderson Lodge -

47 Year old Lodge (Chartered December 02, 1965)
Lodge Address: 10103 Eveningway San Antonio,78233
Meetings: First Tuesday of each month, 7:30 p.m.
Meal: 6:30 pm

Based on your location the nearest location is probably the lodges that meet at 1163 Rice Road, SA TX 78220

Any lodge you consider, see when they meet. Show up about an hour before the members only part of the meeting. Introduce yourself and ask how to become a Mason. In person always works best.

I agree with all the above with one little change. It was mentioned that some of the brothers might be a little defensive at first. I understand the poster's meaning but to the uninitiated it may seem a little off putting. I believe what the poster was trying to suggest is that the brothers should be very open and kind. In fact surprisingly open and kind, (at least that was my experience). They will however be observing you to see if you are genuinely interested in the craft or someone who is trying to find some dirt. Unfortunately, that is a concern. But, if you are genuinely interested, and I believe you are, please go to any lodge in your area on any night they meet. I believe you will find some of the most kind-hearted and welcoming people you have ever seen who are interested in answering your questions and providing you with any information they can so that you can see if Masonry would be a good fit in your life.

This was exactly the point I was trying to convey. I chose the wrong words.
