Appendant Bodies

Is there a cooling off period between when you join one appending body before you can join another?

How about from when becoming a MM?

I do not recall ever hearing of such a thing. You can check with your Lodge Secretary to be certain though.

Good Luck!

In my jurisdiction no and no. The appendant bodies don't so much care about each other's business so no wait there. Often someone is creepin on you after your raising to give you a SR petition hah.

As a general rule, I always inform new Master Masons that there are other bodies out there but chill out and stay in the Blue Lodge for at least a year.

You would have to check your own jurisdiction to see if they have a rule about either. Most jurisdictions dropped any such rule decades ago.

That said, ask around to see what brothers say about joining appendent bodies. Very many who joined under a year after being raised wish they had waited longer. Occasionally you'll encounter a brother who took 20 years before joining an appendent body who wish they'd joined sooner. Somewhere in there is a happy medium.

For me that happy medium was going through the line then joining my first appendent body then similar timing for my next one.

I've heard on no such thing. I waited 2-years before joining an appendant body outside the Lodge.

If you're considering York Rite, I would recommend working in the Blue Lodge and participating on the degree teams for a year or so. It's not required in my jurisdiction, but the degrees will mean more if you're very familiar with the first three degrees. Just a recommendation. Good luck!

I have never heard of any certain amount of time. I went through the York Rite festival three months after my raising, and I was glad I did. It provided a lot of extra info. I didn't become active in the YR until much later, but I was glad I got the degrees early.

Our Lodge hands out an info packet to newly raised MM on both the YR and the SR. The YR also throws in a lapel pin. :14:

Under GLoTX, a newly-raised MM must demonstrate his proficiency in the work within 90 days and cannot petition any appendent body until after he has done so.
