I was just raised and i am considering joining the YR. How much time is required in this body compared to the Blue Lodge? Is there any memorization of degrees?

No memorization. Ask how often the bodies meet in your jurisdiction. It varies.
Good advice.
I have heard that a lot of guys are roped into officer positions pretty quick in the RAM, CC and eventually KT.
Yes, just like the Blue Lodge the Chapter, Council and KT are usually looking for people to serve in elected and appointed positions. However, this is not mandatory. I greatly enjoy the York Rite so I volunteered to serve in all three, which I do.

Our meetings are held once a month with Chapter and Council meeting on the same night, Council meeting immediately after the Chapter. Each meeting lasting approx. 1 hour.

In my personal opinion the rituals in the York Rite, most especially the Knights Templar Degree, are the most beautiful in Masonry.

The Chapter and Council complete the story you have already started. You have read three chapters of an 8-9 chapter book, and they aren't necessarily the first three changes.

The time commitment is entirely up to you.

You will more than likely have the opportunity to fill officer spots in the coming year, and it is an excellent training ground for when you get into the officer line of the Blue Lodge.

*pauses*... I never thought of asking, but would a Chapter of HRA read its ritual ? No so here... I think RAM reads though.. not sure about the others, but I could ask if you wanted to know..

From a recent conversation with Bro. Bloke, RAM here does not mean Royal Arch Mason but Royal Ark Mariner.

I think this is the best thing I've read to explain the degrees and officers of the YR! If we could only convince the General Grand Chapter to sale the training camp idea it would very beneficial to the chapter and lodge.
