I like gift cards over getting some junk I will never use or something I'll never ware and end up giving it to goodwill

It depends, I specifically asked for Barnes and Noble cards to build up spending money in case I decide to buy a nook. A forward facing investment.

I also got someone a gift card for audio books because we've discussed them over the past years and I know that as much as she likes them, she won't spend any of her own money to indulge herself.

I don't make a habit of it, but I think it's good in some cases to "get people to spend on themselves" who usually wouldn't and indulge a little.

When people ask what I want, I tell them gift cards but I try to designate from where. That way I can get a larger sum for one big purchase. My last digital camera came from Best Buy purchased from christmas gift cards.

"gift cards" is winning?

you lamers need to get "VISA Gift Cards" or whatever and just trade numbers so that ya'll can all give each other 20 dollars for every holiday.

Also, I use the word "lamer" in the most loving of ways.

On one hand, they are very functional, but they show little thought or creativity. I learned this from my wife when I tried to buy one for my mother for Christmas.

My wife and daughter LOVE them!!! My brother sent them each one each for Wal Mart for Christmas, and it was the best thing they got. I almost took back the gifts I got them, and got gift cards. We were at a Fire Dept. function for those who ride motorcycles. When Karen found out they were giving away the gift cards, she signed up for every event she could. AND, Won ALL of them!!! She had so many gift cards, it took her a whole week to spend them. Since we are a little ways from the "Big City", they can use them online to order and deliver. I would rather give someone something like that, and let them buy something they want, instead of giving them something they don't want, or have no use for. I'll take them for Radio Shack, I still build a bunch of my own Ham Radio stuff.
