Political dissent

How did our founding Fathers, many of whom were Masons, dissent from the British without violating their Obligations?

You know that part of the obligation is a very small part. I think that if you look at the whole obligation we have much more to live up to. So if to live up to most of the obligation and lessons you must break one thing then so be it in my opinion.

Also while many people involved were masons, I don't think there is any proof that Masonry caused a revolution. Yes the brotherhood and bonds they shared allowed like minded people to correspond, create, and plan a revolution. For a revolution to be successful enough people must share the desire to put everything on the line and potentially loose everything for the greater good. Look at our forefathers and how many were bankrupt or financially sacrificed most of what they had to see we had a chance. How many people would do this today?

Not so short and sweet, DOUH!

As I tend to say in threads like these - how about we wait for an election.

The last many years were spent with known policies of torture, secret detentions, secret wiretapping of citizens, secret warrants and secret evidence for trials, the introduction of Unitary Executive supported by multiple branches for the first time.

Those of use us who didn't like it voted.

it would appear that these policies are continuing.

I agree. And my right to ask Obama be replaced or tried if he breaks any laws stands.

Our Congressmen refuse to try presidents for crimes. Our Congress and Presidents refuse to push back any powers gained by the President because they expect their own President to have those powers one day.

All of that can still be handled at the voting booth. When it can't - then talk about revolution. Until then, as far as I can tell, its what the people have asked for. People aren't losing their seats in Congress over any of this.

If you can't get the population to be educated about what is going on, or worse to care, even when they're afraid of the boogeyman - what use is a revolution? You'd end up with a still half-educated, fearful and apathetic population. It makes a good autocracy, but not a democracy oriented revolution.

BTW I do support states rights and states pushing the envelope. I believe a return to the constitutional layout would cure many things that both sides are not happy with. I don't agree with Southern, Northern, Eastern, Western, Liberal, Conservative states over exerting when they have a majority of like minded people in position. The states should follow with what they are setup to do. This will allow for each state to represent their people as they see fit, and when a State like California goes to an extreme don't bail them out. When banks and business operate in a manner that is irresponsible don't bail them out allow the markets to reset.

Wait until November. Better yet, take a look at the rats already leaving the sinking ship.

"Hey! I'm different than the other guy!"

Well maybe people will take a minute to look at how they have interacted/voted in the past instead of deciding to listen, only to what they are saying. They are politicians, you know born to lie.

I am pleased with the way the country is finally turning around. Some may disagree and that's ok but the turnaround is fact. You are right about not going after Presidents who break the law. A federal court has recently ruled that the Bush approved wiretappings were illegal. Nothing will come of that. The torture tapes destroyed by the CIA that, if true, would prove that Chaney broke federal and international laws. Again, nothing will come of that. :(

Our bretherern entered the lodge as Masons in front of everyone and Native Americans came out, afterwards Native Americans entered the lodge and Mason's came out. I think that's how Mason's deal with political dissent. "Speak softly but carry a big stick!" T.Roosevelt

I mean openly and in public eye we do not bring political dissent on to Masonry, but as an organized group effect change.
