Once again, I have no idea what you're on about. "Satan" is pretty specific to certain religions, and the "fight against him" is specific to them as well. Freemasonry is not a religion, and you really need to comprehend that if you truly want to join.

I feel it is personal choice, though I definitely think some Brothers go over-the-top. I don't wear "a lot" of advertising, but that's my choice.

I attended an Easter service one year in a black suit with my Malta medal. I was unsure of what anyone would say about the lack of a uniform. The Grand Commander tapped my medal and told me not to worry, as I was wearing the only required piece of regalia.
I'll keep my opinion if the Civil War...
Freemasonry is not a business. If you want to join a lodge, find one nearby. If you're starting a business, good luck!

The year I was Raised is the only year I haven't worn an officer's apron.
My mother lodge starts it's line at Chaplain, which throws several long memorizations at young Masons right away. It's the only lodge I've seen that done in.
NYLight is correct, the GLNF has been returned to amity with UGLE.
For severs years I've had this working daydream of a little inn with a simple lodgeroom upstairs. Depending on the furnishings, it could even serve as a museum by day.

They met in rooms above the tavern, not actually in it. It would be the same as a private dining room in a restaurant today.
Many lodges in Scotland have a full-service bar in their buildings. The US still suffers from dry counties and failed Prohibition mentality.

"Sir" is always acceptable, as is Brother (when in lodge). I once has a job in the Navy where, as an E-5, I had positional authority over anyone assigned to me, regardless of rank. I still called the officers Sir...

Ask for a petition as soon as you feel you are ready. And stop worrying about your FIL, it's pretty common to have friends and relatives in the lodge you decide to join
