Our board is in the dining room, but I figured the minutes could be posted the night of our stated meeting if nothing else.
That's part of the problem. All the minutes are read in really high detail, I'd say that the our minutes take at least 10 minutes. Sometimes longer, depending on if we...
This takes a huge amount of time during our stated meetings, so much so that it feels as though it's what we're spending the majority the meeting listening to them.
How is this handled in your lodge? Is every detail of the minutes and local/GL correspondence read? Is it just discussed...
Awesome Brother Fleischer, I'll be sure to have a look through all of these links!
One thing I find curious though, is you sound as though you like the Pass It On program as well as the ideas behind Guarding the West and Laudable Pursuit. I've read the Pass It On Booklet as well as Laudable...
To be honest, I don't know. In our lodge, how well you adhere to the guidelines gets taken into account when it's time to consider advancement for officers or degrees.
Otherwise, I don't know for sure what you can legally do. Perhaps someone more informed can answer that for both of us.
I'm unsure what you mean by 'bonding of officers'?
We have several similar rules, however we implemented them all into our lodge guidelines instead of our bylaws, that way we can make changes to them more easily.
Guidelines - Welcome to the Grandview Masonic Lodge
Our lodge has options for brothers on fixed income in our guidelines, but it's mostly just for older brethren.
The problem with raising dues is you almost -have- to increase the price for endowed membership or it'll start looking far more appealing than continuously paying your dues yearly...
It's all about what Freemasonry is worth to you. I often find that if a brother doesn't feel he's getting his due's worth already then there's no justification in raising dues and, to be fair, there's plenty of lodges that don't offer much for their membership.
It's already been pointed out...
$200 bucks a year comes out to $16 bucks a month, which is far less than most people spend on luxuries such as cable or satellite. If someone can't afford it (I'd have a hard time justifying it ATM) that's one thing, but if someone can justify spending $50 a month on some superfluity but not...
Illegal or not, the thing to do would have been to approach the brother who sent the email with his concerns. Threatening to raising a stink about it right off the bat seems more than a bit excessive, unless it's been a problem for a while.
Congratulations brother!
Btw, in Russian lodges, the goat rides you!
On a more serious note though, I agree with Bro. Mac that it probably shouldn't actually be called that. At least not if we want to expect candidates to take it seriously.
Thanks again everyone, this is all appreciated.
Thank you for the link Brother. As for my sig, I haven't seen any harm in it...if it's unappreciated by the brothers I'd be fine with removing it though.
Brother, this could be handled on a lodge level if your lodge is willing to commit to improve the quality of investigations. For example, our lodge has adopted a few policies for our investigating committees to follow.
I wasn't aware of that Bro. Beathard, but I could see why they'd do that considering the size of of the state.
A migrating Grand Lodge sounds as though it'd present it's own share of challenges, a lot of which have been mentioned already. I also wonder if you'd start getting areas trying to...
Thanks for all the feedback so far. If you brothers would further indulge me, I'd like to bounce a few ideas off whomever is willing to offer feedback:
- Throwing a lodge Christmas party, or Feast Of St. John. Our MWSA usually throws Christmas parties for the district but they've allowed...
- As membership naturally decreases, Grand Lodge will become more strapped for cash and thus more eager for more members
- Accordingly one day ceremonies will become allowed or requirements to join and advance in degrees will be greatly reduced
- Appendant bodies, especially Yorkrite, will...
