By scientific definition darkness is the absence of light.... Perhaps this can be paralled to mean that one who did not have light had an absence of masonry in his life.. so I feel that the introduction of light is the beginning or birth of a mason..
Welcome to our little discussion board. I hope that you enjoy yourself and at the same time, give us your thoughts on Masonry in general and Texas Masonry in particular. From my short time in this forum, I have concluded that the participants who frequent these boards are genuinely intrested in...
Brother Mike,
Congratulations on your becoming a Master Mason, and an ACTIVE one at that ! To have worked in a graded Masters Degree shortly after being raised is actually quite an accomplishment in itself. I am curious as to where you are now in your masonic journey. Have you joined any...
Brother Blake,
I do not know of a website that list all of the lodges recognized by the Grand Lodge of Texas, however there does exist a couple of list or books that do so. Both list ( or books) are available for viewing at your secretaries office. If you wish to purchase one for yourself...
I do agree with your concept. I fail to see where there was any exclusion by either group or camp. I have been a Master mason since 1977 and earned my Certificte in the Esetoric work of the Grand Lodge of Texas that same year. I have never considered myself a better mason than any other...
I believe that you are missing the point. Then requirement to open and close all of the lodges is not directed or pionted towards the brethren who do not choose to get into the line and work towards becoming the Master of a Lodge. There will always be ritualist and there will always be brethren...
Brother Jones,
I do most of the Burial Services for League City, and some of the surrounding lodges as well. I do the version that is in the old Lightfoots Monitor. I learned it in 1978 and just havent taken the time to learn the later version in the new Monitor. I do agree with several who...
Brother Vickery, I am certain that we have all visited a lodge or two that didn't quite seem to give a warm fuzzy feeling. I can honestly say that after traveling the world a couple of times, and visiting so many lodges I can't remember them all, I have encountered that bad feeling only once...
Brother Joey,
I believe your fears are unfounded. Back before around 1999, all three of the principal officers had to be certified. Lodges were still able to fill their positions. I have found that most of the guys who are in their 70s or 80 do a fairly good job of opening and closing the...
Brother Joey,
I am a DI, and I have never failed a brother who gives his all to learning the opening and closing ritual.
Last year the lodges in my district that had all three of their principal officers certified scored much better during the reception of the DDGM then the lodges that did...
I would recommend doing a bit of visiting and find that one chapter out there that is vibrant and exciting, then take back a few ides to your own chapter and see how your ideas are received. The beauty of all of Masonry, is that you can always move your membership.
Blake,
While visiting the Masters Wardens and Secretaries Association of Dist 31 last evening, I did take a look at the constitution and found that there are several committies that allow Master Masons to fill some of the spots, however there is a requirement that these committies have a...
I suspect that a bit of brown nosing has happened down through the years, but in reality the qualifications are fairly simple: The brother being considerd must be a member of Grand Lodge, should have a good understanding of the Constitution of the Grand Lodge of Texas, should be well known in...
Blake, I am fairly certain that one must be a member of Grand Lodge in order to chair a committee and for the most part, participate as a member . I believe that there are a few exceptions to this requirement for certain committies. I will be glad to research the question for you if you so desire.
The same thing that attracted me 30 plus years ago would attract me to the fraternaty. I came along well before the internet or other modern means of communication and advertising. When I began wanting to become a mason, it was because I noticed men who wore the S&C were different than other...
With per-capita at $14.00 per member, Expenses such as these are not within our reach. The blue envelope appeals never seem to be enough either. I do not see the Grand Lodge being able to even open their doors if something isn/t done in the near future.
Howdy, and thanks for the invitation to join this group. I love talking Masonry with my brothers. I am a bit busy at work, so somtimes it may take me a while to respond to a thread. If you will bear with me, I will eventually get what I am attempting to say typed.
