GETTING HEALED

I hear of the healing process primarily concerning PHA Lodges. Is this process also present outside of PHA? Please excuse my ignorance in this matter as I am a relatively new MM.

If you were Raised in a Clandestine lodge and wish to become Regular, you have to start over. This, in my understanding, is the "healing process".

I have heard from Brothers in GL of Hawaii they have a healing process of some sort other than going through the degrees.
I find it so interesting that the term some use is "healing" suggesting that getting initiated some how damages or makes you sick.

Here, we just "re-initiate" brothers.

Ive always kinda been neutral on a "healing". But then i was thinking...in both my jurisdictions there is a line about going this way as all fellows habe gone this way before....so ive mafe up my mind....i dont agree in a healing...they should be made to take the degrees in a regular lodge

The situation can differ from scenario to scenario I will give one in witch I don't see the need to make a brother go back through the degrees again " let's say GL A & GL B are in amity with one another and the regular Masonic world , all of a sudden GL A drops the requirements of belief in a deity and is hence forth declared clandestine by GL B and the rest of the Masonic world ( keep in mind before this requirement was dropped the members were all I, P ,& R in a lodge that was regular and legally constituted) after the requirement was dropped some of the members decided to be healed into GL C to stay in bounds within the rules of regular masonry would you see a need for these brothers to go back through their degrees all over ?

If they were regularly I,P,&R then all they need is to apply for affiliation. The reasons are known and obvious, and the dates are on record.
Someone who received Degrees AFTER the GL went irregular would have to take those Degrees again. (imo)

In some situations that's the exact reason PHA uses the healing process some brothers start out PHA go international or AF&AM and come back some start AF&AM or international (IF&AMM) and switch over to PHA it all depends on the situation weather they need to go through the degrees again if a PHA brother switches over to GLofState he still has to go through the degrees again from my understanding even though he was raised in a Regular and Legally Constituted lodge of Free and Accepted Mason's so in my opinion it's a jurisdictional thing at the discretion of the GL

Exactly JC. @mrprice17 thats not really what were talking about here. If some one joined the New Jerusalem Reg GLof Georgia and after being raised realises that their "GL" is bogus then yeah they need to take their degrees over, regardless of what ritual they use or how "regular" their workings are

Case and point on why I gave that scenario does any GLofState offer a PHA brother the option to apply for affiliation if he wants to switch over or does he have to go through degrees again PHA is Regular and I'm not aware of any that do that being said anyone who does switch over from a clandestine lodge who whent through their degrees and that lodge was regular in there workings it should be a cake walk for that brother he already knows what is expected just seams like a waste of time to me to make him repeat the process all over give him a evaluation to see what he knows and doesn't know and act accordingly sometimes the only thing that needs to be healed is the lineage other times the work is just flat out wrong hazing and so forth as I stated above it all depends on the situation I don't think there is a right or wrong answer on this its up to the GL

As far as I know a PHA Brother in NM could demit and apply for affiliation to GLNM. I'm fairly certain it would be that way here in Cali, too. But as has been stated, it all depends on your jurisdiction. Many variations on a theme.

If the PHA GL and GL of State recognize each other then there is no need to heal. In my Jurisdiction a PHA Brother would demit and submit his demit with his petition to the Lodge. He would not retake the degrees.... When I resigned from my former Jurisdiction (which isn't recognized by my current Jurisdiction) I had to write a letter of Renouncing and submitted it with my petition. Then retook the degrees.

It depends on the jurisdiction and whether they recognize each other but each grand lodge is sovereign. Most PHA jurisdictions don't allow plural affiliations. In Minnesota however, you can be a member of both grand lodges. Not sure if they are the only PHA jurisdiction that allows this.

But how many brothers have any idea about regularity issues no matter that the obligations say to not cross the regularity boundary. I can easily imagine a Brother active at the local level moving to a new town and applying for affiliation in his new town having no idea they aren't regular. Clandestine jurisdictions are happy to take members from regular jurisdictions and most of their members don't know.

So when the process of "healing" is spoken of it simply means taking the degrees over in a regular lodge?
